2027 Eclipse Path of Totality Map

The path of totality is the strip where the Moon covers the whole Sun. Step outside it, even by a few kilometres, and you see a deep partial eclipse instead: no corona, no darkness, no stars. That is why the map matters more than anything else when you book.

Or enter latitude and longitude

North and east are positive, south and west negative. Times are shown in UTC or in your device’s time zone.

Calculated in your browser from NASA’s eclipse elements. Checked against timeanddate for 10 cities: start, maximum and end match to the minute; totality within about 5 seconds.

Where the path goes

NASA lists the countries inside the path in this order, west to east: Morocco, Spain, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Somalia. The shadow crosses the Strait of Gibraltar, runs along North Africa, follows the Nile valley region near Luxor, crosses the Red Sea and leaves land on the Horn of Africa.

Inside or outside? Real examples

Two Andalusian cities show how sharp the edge is. Per timeanddate:

  • Cádiz: total, 2 min 56 s.
  • Seville: partial only, 97.9% of the Sun's diameter covered. No totality.

The same happens in Egypt: Luxor gets 6 min 22 s of totality, while Aswan to the south sees a partial eclipse (magnitude 0.996).

How to read the map

  • The edges of the amber band are the north and south limits. You must be between them.
  • The dark line is the centre line, where totality is longest.
  • Near an edge, totality shrinks fast. NASA notes that the Moon's mountains and valleys can shift the limits by 1–3 km, so do not plan to stand right on a limit line.

FAQ

How wide is the path?

NASA’s path table gives a width of about 206 km where the shadow first touches the ocean, about 236 km as it passes Tangier and southern Spain, and about 257–259 km over Egypt and the Red Sea.

Is my hotel inside the path?

Click its location on the map. If the popup says "Total", you are in.

Where is totality longest?

NASA gives the greatest duration as 6 min 23.2 s. Luxor, at 6 min 22 s, is close to that.
